Jannik Sinner is losing one of the coaches behind his rise to the top. Australian Darren Cahill, 61, will leave the Italian's camp at the end of 2026, the BBC reported. Swede Magnus Norman will join Sinner's team for next season. Norman was the long-time coach of the recently retired Stan Wawrinka.
Cahill joined Sinner's team in June 2022. At the time, Sinner was just outside the world's top 10. He had never gone past the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam. Working with Italian coach Simone Vagnozzi, Cahill helped him win five Slams and hold the world number one spot for 95 weeks.
Sinner, 25, praised the Australian. He said Cahill had been an incredibly important part of his journey and had helped him grow as a player and as a person. "His guidance will stay with me throughout my career," Sinner said. Cahill called working with Sinner "a special honour and privilege".
Cahill had originally planned to leave at the end of 2025, according to the BBC. At Wimbledon, he told Sinner the Italian could decide whether he stayed on, as long as he won the title. Sinner went on to win Wimbledon for the second year in a row in July.
Injury has kept Sinner off the court since that win. Alexander Zverev has since overtaken him at the top of the rankings. Sinner is set to return next month at the Six Kings Slam tournament in Saudi Arabia.
