How we use AI in our journalism

We use artificial intelligence as a tool in our newsroom. People decide what we publish.

What AI does

  • Monitors hundreds of sources around the clock and flags important stories.
  • Groups reports of the same event from different outlets.
  • Drafts a first version of each summary and headline.
  • Checks drafts against the sources.
  • Suggests charts, maps and fact boxes.

What it does not do

  • Publish anything on its own.
  • Decide what is news.
  • Invent quotes, numbers or facts.
  • Write opinion.

Questions people ask

Are the stories written by a robot?

No. AI drafts, and an editor checks, rewrites where needed and only then approves. No story goes live without an editor.

Who is responsible for mistakes?

We are. If AI gets something wrong and we miss it, the mistake is ours, and we correct it openly.

Where do the numbers come from?

Only from named sources. Every story links to them.

Are the images made by AI?

Story illustrations are generated graphics made of simple shapes and colours. We do not use AI to create realistic images of people or events.
