Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has secured KSh 10.5 billion to build a battery energy storage facility, Business Today Kenya reported on Thursday. The outlet said the project aims to improve electricity supply. It also seeks to reduce the country's dependence on expensive thermal power plants.
The facility will let KenGen store surplus electricity from wind and solar sources when demand is low. The report said that power can then be released into the grid later.
Business Today Kenya did not say who is providing the funding or when the facility will be ready. Nor did it give the project's size or location.
