Harry Kane is staying in Munich. The England captain and new Ballon d'Or winner has signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich until 2029, the club announced on Thursday. The 33-year-old had 12 months left on the four-year deal he signed in 2023, BBC Sport reported, as carried by the Nile Post.
Bayern did not disclose financial details. The Guardian reported that German media called the extension the most lucrative contract in the club's history. BBC Sport said the new deal keeps Kane at Bayern through Euro 2028, until shortly before his 36th birthday.
Kane said he feels "right at home" at the club and that his whole family is happy in Munich. He praised manager Vincent Kompany and said he wants to win many more titles. Sporting director Christoph Freund said the club was "absolutely delighted". He called Kane "the best all-round striker in the world".
Kane joined from Tottenham in 2023. The Guardian put the record fee at €100m, while BBC Sport gave it as £86m. He has since scored 156 goals in 161 games, including 12 this season. Last season he scored a club record 61 goals in 51 games as Bayern won the league and cup double, BBC Sport reported.
Kane was recently named the world's best male player at the Ballon d'Or ceremony. According to The Guardian, he is the first Englishman to win the award in 25 years. He is also the first Bayern player to win it since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. BBC Sport said he is the first Bundesliga player to take the prize since 1996. In September he became the fastest player in German history to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, needing 98 games.
The extension shuts out interest from elsewhere. BBC Sport said Barcelona had long wanted Kane, and clubs in Saudi Arabia were also linked with him. The deal also makes a return to the Premier League less likely. Kane is 47 goals short of Alan Shearer's record of 260.
On the international stage, Kane has equalled Peter Shilton's England record of 125 caps. He scored six goals at this summer's World Cup, BBC Sport reported. That made him England's all-time top scorer at the tournament, with 14 goals.
