Kenya produced less sugar in 2025. Output fell by 24.5 per cent, according to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) figures published by The Star on Tuesday.

Production dropped to 7.04 in 2025 from 9.33 in 2024. The Star's chart labels the figures in millions of metric tonnes. The 2024 figure was the highest in the period shown.

Output has swung up and down in recent years. Production stood at 6.89 in 2020 and rose to 8.59 in 2022. It then fell to 5.48 in 2023 before jumping to the 2024 peak.

The Star said the latest fall raises questions about what is driving the drop in domestic sugar output. The publication did not give reasons for the decline.
