Kenya's mobile subscriber base grew by nearly 10% to 78.4 million in 2025, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. Semafor reported the figures on Monday. S&P attributes the growth to rising demand for broadband, the spread of mobile money and other digital financial services.

Kenya has around 60 million people, so subscriptions now outnumber the population. Semafor said the continued growth shows consumers are widening their use of digital technology. This is especially true as more people move to 5G.

Kenyans bought more than a million 5G subscriptions in 2025, a 71.7% rise on the previous year. Semafor said M-Pesa, Safaricom's money transfer service, laid the groundwork for Kenya's role as an African tech hub. Faster connections are now set to open up new possibilities.
