Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has warned government workers against slipping into holiday mode early. He threatened stern action against public servants who abandon duty ahead of the Christmas holidays, Business Today Kenya reported.

The warning followed a surprise inspection of government offices in Kajiado County on Monday. According to the outlet, the impromptu visit exposed widespread absenteeism. Ruku directed his message at all government workers in Kenya, not only those in Kajiado.

The Daily Nation also reported the warning. It said Ruku cautioned public servants against switching to December holiday mode too early.

The sources do not say which offices he visited or how many workers were absent. They also do not specify what disciplinary steps the ministry plans.
