US President Donald Trump signed an order on Thursday making the Oval Office a national monument, AFP reported. The order extends his drive to beautify the White House.

It follows a heavy defeat for Trump's Republican Party in the midterm elections, according to the report carried by New Vision. Critics accused Trump of ignoring voters' concerns, including the Iran war and the cost of living. They said he was fixated instead on several construction and renovation projects in Washington.

The sources do not say what monument status will mean in practice.
