The Public Service Commission (PSC) has disowned letters on social media claiming it approved permanent government jobs. In a notice on Tuesday, the commission said the letters did not come from it. It warned state departments and the public not to rely on them.
"The public and Government institutions are cautioned against acting on them," the PSC said, according to Kenyans.co.ke. The commission said people should trust only information on its website and official communication channels.
The fake letters claimed the PSC had approved hiring officers into three state departments. Kenyans.co.ke named them as the State Department for Forestry, the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, and the State Department of Public Works. The letters told the departments to hire the officers listed in attached schedules on permanent and pensionable terms.
According to the letters, the approval followed a request from the Executive Office of the President. They cited a commission decision supposedly made on July 3, 2026, under section 33 of the Public Service Commission Act, 2017. The letters also told the departments to bring the listed officers into the established public service workforce.
The documents carried the Kenyan Coat of Arms and the PSC logo. Kenyans.co.ke reported that this made them hard to spot as fake at a glance.
The warning follows a PSC advertisement on September 22 for over 700 vacancies. The posts are spread across government ministries and state departments. They cover senior management, legal, human resources, social development, mining, forestry and environment. Applications must be submitted through the PSC website.
The recruitment also includes top roles. Among them are Secretary for Cabinet Affairs and Special Programmes, Director for Cabinet Affairs, and Commissioner for Co-operative Development. Several senior posts in the Environment, Climate Change and Forestry sectors are also open.
