The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched compliance crackdowns across the country ahead of the festive season, The Star reported. Travel peaks between December and January. The authority says it wants to keep all major transport corridors safe.

Enforcement officers are monitoring speed in real time. They are also checking that speed limiters work on commercial and public transport vehicles. Inspectors are auditing driver credentials, route licences and passenger manifests. Seatbelt use and vehicle load weights are being checked too.

Officers are running breathalyser tests to catch drink-driving. NTSA told drivers that genuine speeding notifications will come only by SMS from the sender ID "NTSA".
