Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has a new board chairman. Prof. Eng. John Kipngetich Mosonik was appointed at a board meeting on Monday, November 2, the company said in a statement reported by The Star.

Mosonik is not new to the company. He is a non-executive director at KenGen and chairs the board's Strategy Committee. In that role, he oversees the company's sustainable energy agenda and its geothermal ambitions.

According to The Star, he has more than 35 years of executive experience in the public and private sectors. His work covers telecommunications engineering, infrastructure, energy and strategic governance. As Principal Secretary for Infrastructure, he led the building of 6,000 kilometres of rural roads across all 47 counties. He has also led major telecommunications and oil and gas projects and helped shape national industrialisation policy.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration in Strategic Leadership from Northcentral University in the United States. He also holds a PhD in Strategic Management from Moi University. His first degree is a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications) from the University of Nairobi. He also has postgraduate qualifications from universities in Spain and the United Kingdom.

Mosonik is Chancellor of Rongo University. He is also Associate Professor of Business Strategy and Digital Transformation at Kenya Highlands University.

KenGen said his background in engineering, infrastructure, leadership and corporate governance would strengthen the board as it pursues its G2G 2034 strategy. The company said it looked forward to his leadership. It aims to remain a leading energy solutions provider and keep supplying sustainable energy for Kenya's development.
