Both Ebola treatment centres in Beni are now over capacity, Radio Okapi reported on Tuesday. The town lies in North Kivu province in eastern DR Congo. The centres have been beyond their limits for several days as confirmed and suspected cases keep rising.

Officials leading the Ebola response gave the figures on Monday. They said that nearly 80 patients are now being treated. About 10 of them are children aged between nine months and 12 years. Several of these children are school pupils.

The report did not say how many of the 80 patients are confirmed cases and how many are suspected. Radio Okapi also gave no death toll. It did not say what steps are planned to create more space for patients.
