Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has unveiled the standing committee of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, The Star reported. The committee will coordinate and oversee Kenya's preparations for the continental tournament. Kenya will co-host the event with Uganda and Tanzania under the PAMOJA partnership.

Mvurya said members were chosen for their experience, professional expertise and leadership. He called those qualities critical to delivering a successful tournament. The Star did not publish the names of the committee members.

The CS said time was short. "With less than eight months to kick-off, I challenged the committee to move decisively from planning to execution, prioritising operational readiness, effective coordination, strategic partnerships, financial accountability and strict adherence to delivery timelines," he said. He added that members carry the hopes of more than 55 million Kenyans. They must also meet the expectations of fans, teams and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Mvurya called the tournament an important test of Kenya's ability to organise major international sporting events. The government is presenting AFCON 2027 as a way to boost sports development, tourism and investment and to create economic opportunities. Mvurya said the event should leave a legacy beyond the matches. That includes investment in sports infrastructure and opportunities for young people.

According to The Star, the tournament is expected to draw thousands of supporters, officials and visitors. That could benefit hotels, airlines, transport operators and tour companies. The three hosts also face pressure to ensure stadiums, training grounds, accommodation, transport and security meet CAF requirements.

Kenya's preparations include the development of Talanta Sports City. Mvurya said the official opening of the Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City will serve as a dress rehearsal. It will test operational systems, security, logistics, crowd management and the fan experience. The opening match will pit German club FC Bayern München against Dutch side AFC Ajax.
