The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) says it has gathered 6.4 million signatures endorsing Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba's presidential bid, New Vision reported on Thursday. The group says it reached that figure six weeks after launching the endorsement drive. The tally is the PLU's own figure.

Frank Mwesigye, the PLU media coordinator, announced the tally in a statement at the group's Naguru offices. He said the PLU secretariat and the office of the national chairman mobilised the signatures together. Supporters signed online on the organisation's official website or in endorsement books distributed across the country.

Mwesigye said the tally brings the group closer to its target. "This achievement marks significant progress towards fulfilling our National Chairman's request to collect 20 million endorsement signatures by September 2027," he said.

Nuwagira, described by New Vision as a national leader of the PLU, also addressed journalists and young supporters. He urged young people to be responsible citizens and to take part in productive activities. Uganda belongs to all its citizens, he said. He added that the younger generation should carry on work the NRM party has not managed to finish.

Nuwagira asked young people to protect the peace Uganda now enjoys. He said his generation had seen wars. He also called for discipline during the endorsement drive, saying he had seen supporters trading abuse and fighting on social media. The PLU does not encourage indiscipline, he said.

He also asked supporters to promote the NRM government's poverty eradication programmes while collecting endorsements.
